Welcome to Beacon Community College Sixth Form

Dear Student

Sixth form studentsWhether you are an existing Beacon student or a student at another establishment you are very welcome to join the Sixth Form at Beacon Community College.  We offer a broad curriculum and aim to meet your needs.  There is a place for you whether you are interested in following a traditional or vocational A/BTEC level course; a combination of both; level 2 courses, retaking some GCSEs, or attending our Wealden Skills Centre.

We have a very successful Sixth Form with students achieving excellent results.  Every year our A-E pass rate is about the national average and in 2009 approximately 45% of students achieved A and B grades. BTEC results are excellent and we have a fantastic track record.  Ofsted 2007 and LEA review 2009 confirmed that we offer excellent opportunities for students while also achieving very good results.

Beacon Sixth Form offers you the best of opportunities – we have a dedicated site, experienced and committed staff, specialist facilities and excellent ICT facilities. While we aim for you to reach your highest academic potential we also want to offer the opportunity to broaden your curriculum by offering opportunities throughout your time in the Sixth Form; we have a traditional Wednesday afternoon slot for you to take part in a wide range of opportunities from sporting activities to organising your own club/society. We want you to contribute to the whole life of the centre to make it vibrant and an exciting place, last but not least we want you to enjoy yourself!

You will be expected to work hard, to show commitment and to achieve success. You will work in partnership with others – with staff to ensure that you are reaching your targets; with your peers in sharing your experiences; and with the wider community in supporting others. Staff will also work closely with your parents to help you achieve your potential. At the end of your time at Beacon you will leave with skills and interests that will provide you for life in the 21st century.

Please make the most of the opportunities to find out more about life in the Sixth Form and do ask if there is anything else you need to know.  I look forward to welcoming you to Beacon Sixth Form in September 2010.

Yours sincerely
