Beacon Community College are delighted to announce our new careers portal “Careers etc”.
This intranet-based virtual learning platform is a communication, resource and management tool for students, staff and parents.
It is designed to improve Careers Education, Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) for everyone. It aims to make innovative use of ICT to incorporate the latest thinking on effective CEIAG practice. Careers etc is now located on our own intranet as a ready-made careers resource. Students will be able to carry out careers research, and view a careers “e-zine”. They can view students work, see an up-to-date notice board, add photos, and use careers websites and articles.
Students will benefit from having access to a dedicated area where they can search for Key Stage 3 and 4 choices, post-16 opportunities, education information, jobs, training and apprenticeships. There are links to Connexions Direct to find your local Connexions Centre and students can email their Connexions PA to receive e-guidance. The portal will incorporate careers sites that many students are already familiar with, such as e-clips and Jobs4u. But links to newer sites such as the Area Wide Prospectus and the Common Application Process will also be possible.
Other features include careers software programs, events calendars and lesson plans. Resources and schemes of work will be useful additions for staff delivering careers programs and makes the possibility of e-learning even more possible.
Parents and carers have their own dedicated area and teaching staff have access to a virtual “staff room.” They also have an “Office” area with curriculum information, professional development, publicity, policy and planning resources.

Our aim is simple: to enable every student to achieve the very best of which they are capable in every realm of activity we can provide. To help us to do so we have developed a college that is distinctive in all it does.
Please spend some time looking through our news pages.
Beacon is a thriving community college with aspirations for young people. This is not a college that stands still. Our students deserve the best if they are to succeed and the college has been through nothing less than a transformation over the last three years in order to achieve that goal.
As the school for Crowborough and the surrounding area we realise that we have a tremendous responsibility to be the best. Whether that be for students aged 11-19, adult learners co-ordinated by us, events such as our sporting work, our youth service or our primary links for gifted and talented, languages, science and sport.
