The Big Draw at Beacon

On Saturday 10th October Beacon Community College hosted a Big Draw event as part of the National Campaign for Drawing. Talented artists aged 12 – 17 were selected to train as Drawing Leaders in order to run a series of drawing activities on the day. Students attended a series of Art Club sessions  in the lead up to the event to provide them with the skills needed to run the day.

Participants had the opportunity to try a number of different activities from tiny fingerprint creatures to giant wall drawings all based on the theme of Crazy Creatures. The emphasis of the day was on unleashing peoples inner creativity and helping them to realise that drawing is fun and can be accessed by all.

The event was a huge success with over 200 people attending. The activities appealed to all and it was fantastic to see children and adults of all ages having a go.

“ What fun – it’s years since I held a wax crayon “ Anne, 56

“ It was very fun “ Archie, 7

A calm and tranquil atmosphere pervaded the day as people lost themselves in their drawings.

“This has been a fantastic opportunity for everyone to get creative with drawing, a huge thank you to the fantastic Drawing Leaders and the Art Department team for making the day a huge success.” Miss Giffard, Acting Head of Department
