Beacon Staff Back To Winning Ways After 16 Year Wait

Playing its first game since the early 1990’s, the Beacon Community College staff football team duly dispatched a strong Hailsham CC side 6-1 with an uncompromising display of attacking football.Manager Mr Hutchison, who marshalled a solid back line, was impressed with a disciplined overall team performance, “Everyone did exactly what was required of them and Hailsham just couldn’t play through us”.

The black and red hoops kept their shape in 4-5-1 system. They soaked up early Hailsham possession before springing forward with devastating counter-attacking flair with Mr Lister and Mr Alexander at the heartbeat of the side. Striker Mr Linch capped a wonderful performance with four goals with messus Cottrell and Stevens each contributing to the scoreline.  Hailsham did manage to blemish an otherwise perfect performance with a 30-yard pile driver past an on looking Mr Jefcoate, on as a second half substitute for Mr Slattery in the Beacon goal.

With forthcoming fixtures on the horizon, competition for places is increasing, which is ominous for staff teams across Sussex.

Team: Slattery, Barbe, Sindall, Jones, Hutchison, Lister, Alexander, Callard, Cottrell, Linch, Stevens. Subs: Jeffcoate (HT), Drake (HT).
