Leading The Change

alt

With 1000 days to go until the opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games in London, Beacon is leading the change within our local community. After two years of running the Young Leaders programme for Beacon students in Years 9 and 10,  we have recently been given the opportunity to introduce Young Ambassadors to our leadership structure here at Beacon. This structure has meant Beacon are now responsible for taking a lead in  the Young Ambassador programme across the North Wealden School Sports Partnership including Beacon, Heathfiled, Chailey, Uckfield and Uplands.

Jordan Broome and Emily Jones both in year 10 applied and were selected to represent our partnership at the training day held at the Brit Oval Cricket ground in London.

Year 8/9 German Trip to the Rhine Oct 2009

alt mce_tsrc=images/stories/website/news/pict0652boppardresized.jpg 65 year 8's and 9's joined us on a trip to Kamp Bornhofen this term where they were immersed into German culture and were able to practise their German language skills whilst taking in the stunning landscape of the Rhine. It was a long coach journey but we finally arrived at Kamp Bornhofen, a beautiful shipping village in the heart of the Loreley Valley. Every day began with a ferry trip across the Rhine to Boppard, a 2000 year old town in the heart of the Rhineland. Our first day saw us take a chair lift up to the top of the hills to see the stunning landscape of the Rhine where we tucked into some delicious “Kaffee und Kuchen,” which, despite taking a long time to arrive, was definitely worth the wait. We were then taken to Köln where we climbed the 509 stairs of spiral staircase up to the top of the spire. All agreed the views were breathtaking but everybody felt a little dizzy by the time we got back down! This was only made better when we reached the chocolate factory and were let loose in the chocolate shop!

You might like to spend some time browsing our website to gain a sense of our purpose and ethos.

Our aim is simple: to enable every student to achieve the very best of which they are capable in every realm of activity we can provide. To help us to do so we have developed a college that is distinctive in all it does.

Please spend some time looking through our news pages.

For a more lighthearted insight into what we do please see the Principal's Blog.

Beacon is a thriving community college with aspirations for young people. This is not a college that stands still. Our students deserve the best if they are to succeed and the college has been through nothing less than a transformation over the last three years in order to achieve that goal.

As the school for Crowborough and the surrounding area we realise that we have a tremendous responsibility to be the best. Whether that be for students aged 11-19, adult learners co-ordinated by us, events such as our sporting work, our youth service or our primary links for gifted and talented, languages, science and sport.
